As part of EGL1’s commitment to supporting communities and protecting the environment, team members from EGL1 partnered with volunteers from contractor Prysmian to take part in beach cleaning activities in County Durham and North Berwick.

Employees from EGL 1 contractor Prysmian volunteered to plant trees at the beautiful Gifford Community Woodland in East Lothian, Scotland. The activity took place during National Tree Week 2025 and forms part of the wider social value initiatives associated with the Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) project.

The Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) project team celebrated an important community milestone with the opening of a newly relocated bridleway alongside Hawthorn Pit in County Durham on Tuesday 19 August 2025.

Enabling works for Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) – a new two-gigawatt high voltage direct current link between East Lothian and Hawthorn Pit in County Durham – began in March 2025. The project is expected to be fully operational by 2029.

In May, members of METLEN Energy & Metals, one of Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1)’s principal contractors, were invited to Kepier Academy alongside local employers, colleges and training providers to take part in a mock interview event for pupils.

As part of Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1)’s commitment to being a good neighbour and protecting the environment around the Murton Converter Station and marine cable landfall area, team members from contractor METLEN Energy & Metals have been working closely with Durham Wildlife Trust to support a series of coastal litter picks along the County Durham coastline.
