Glenturas is delighted to share that we have donated £8,620 to East Lothian Works to support three fantastic initiatives at Dunbar Grammar School, as part of wider community action linked to the EGL1 project. Luke Hanlon and Ethan McGlinchey represented Glenturas' EGL1 project management team during a visit to the school to meet John Johnstone, Headteacher, and some of the school's dedicated young volunteers, to make the donation. Many thanks to Sue Anderson from Developing Young Workforce (East Lothian Council) and the Prysmian team for bringing these initiatives to our attention.
This funding will help deliver the following:
- Breakfast Club - giving pupils a breakfast before the school day begins, while providing a welcoming space where those who need additional support can access care and nurture.
- Dunbar Dinners - a much-loved weekly initiative that brings together local older residents and young volunteers for a home cooked two course meal. Since 2019, the programme has aimed to reduce loneliness and social isolation while giving pupils the opportunity to develop confidence, life skills and meaningful connections within their community.
- Holiday Programme - supporting disadvantaged young people throughout every school holiday by providing a nutritious meal each day, a safe and supportive environment, and opportunities to take part in activities, build friendships, and enjoy being children. Our donation will also help cover increased transport costs, ensuring the programme can continue to offer a full range of activities throughout the year.
At Glenturas, we're committed to creating a positive impact in the communities where we work. We're delighted that this donation will support people across generations and help these valued programmes continue making a difference within Dunbar and the East Lothian area.
EGL1 is a joint venture between SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission to build a 2GW HVDC connection between Scotland and England.
