As part of EGL1’s commitment to supporting communities and protecting the environment, team members from EGL1 partnered with volunteers from contractor Prysmian to take part in beach cleaning activities in County Durham and North Berwick.
This was part of the Great British Beach Clean, a national campaign led by the Marine Conservation Society. EGL1 and our contractors partnered with Durham Wildlife Trust and the Scottish Seabird Centre, clearing litter and raising awareness about long-term solutions to marine pollution.
Volunteers helped to clear litter from the local coastline and raised awareness of the impacts of marine debris. Together, the teams collected around 38 bags of rubbish, which was sorted into categories such as food wrappers, bottles, and polystyrene. All recyclable items were separated and responsibly disposed of through local authorities, and the data collected will contribute to national efforts tracking marine litter trends.
These cleanup activities build on earlier events held this year during World Environment Day, when volunteers also supported litter picks at Horden Beach in County Durham and North Berwick Beach in East Lothian in partnership with community organisations.
By participating in initiatives like the Great British Beach Clean, the EGL1 project is helping to protect coastal ecosystems and engage local communities in meaningful action for cleaner, healthier environments.
