EGL1, in collaboration with contractors Murphy, welcomed a group of pupils from Ribbon Academy in nearby Seaham to the Hawthorn Pit project site. The visit offered the pupils first-hand insight into a major renewable energy project and demonstrated how such developments can positively shape local communities.

This visit marks the beginning of a three-year learning journey, during which the pupils will follow the progress of the project through to its completion, coinciding with their final days at Ribbon Academy in July 2027.

During the visit, pupils had the chance to explore real-world engineering and construction, learn about environmental sustainability, and understand the wider impact of such projects on local communities. They also met professionals working on-site, gaining valuable insight into their careers, the skills required, and the teamwork involved in delivering major infrastructure projects.

Commenting on the trip, Ribbon Academy said,This long-term engagement offers a fantastic opportunity for pupils to explore real-world engineering, environmental impacts, and community development,” continuing, “We’re incredibly grateful to the Murphy Group for their support and look forward to the exciting experiences this partnership will bring.”

This initiative forms part of EGL1’s broader commitment to supporting local schools and community programs, inspiring and educating the next generation of engineers, environmentalists, and community leaders.
