Employees from EGL 1 contractor Prysmian volunteered to plant trees at the beautiful Gifford Community Woodland in East Lothian, Scotland. The activity took place during National Tree Week 2025 and forms part of the wider social value initiatives associated with the Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) project.

A total of seven volunteers participated in the three-hour session, with colleagues from Prysmian and SP Energy Networks (SPEN) working alongside supply chain partner Glenturas.
Five native species Grey Willow, Rowan, Wild Cherry, Hawthorn, and Sessile Oak were planted, with 120 seedlings successfully secured using wooden stakes and protective guards to support their growth.
The day was delivered in partnership with Treetime Edinburgh, a project run by the Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust, and Gifford Community Woodland. Treetime Edinburgh engages communities in planting and caring for trees to promote biodiversity and help combat climate change.
This tree planting initiative directly supports efforts to tackle climate change and enhance local biodiversity. By planting native species, the volunteers are creating new habitats, improving air quality, and contributing to a healthier environment for future generations.
Alberto Pirovano, Project Director at Prysmian, commented:
“We are delighted to support this fantastic initiative at Gifford Community Woodland during National Tree Week. Contributing positively to the communities where EGL1 operates is a core part of our mission, particularly through projects that benefit the environment. Seeing colleagues from Prysmian, Glenturas, and SPEN working together for such a worthwhile cause truly embodies the spirit of partnership behind EGL1.”
